About Us
2005 Executive
Mike McFarlane, President
Mike McFarlane retired from football in 2003 after an illustrious career. The cousin of a three-time Brownlow Medal winner, he began playing footy in 1981 in Port Melbourne, Australia. He is the only non-Australian ever to start for the club, and managed to win two championships in his three years. After many years away from the game, Mike joined the the Vancouver Cougars in 2002. He was a member of Northwind in 2001 and 2002.
Bill Frampton, Vice President
Bill Frampton founded AFL Canada in 1989 under the name Canadian Australian Football Association and was president for the first two years. Under his leadership, the first clubs were established in Ontario and the Conacher Cup was inaugurated in honour of the greatest all-round athlete in Canadian sports history, Lionel Conacher. He also founded the Hamilton Wildcats in 1990 and was the first president of that club.
Work took him to other parts of the country for a number of years, during which time he was away from the game. He returned to the game last year as a field umpire in the Ontario Australian Football League and is now President of the London Magpies and Vice-President of AFL Canada, and will again be umpiring in the OAFL. Bill's goal for AFL Canada is to see Australian Football prosper in Canada through the formation of new provincial leagues and clubs and for the Northwind to have a very successful International Cup campaign this August.
Jacob Steinberg, Treasurer
Jacob is in his fourth year of Australian football. He plays for the Toronto Downtown Dingos in the OAFL. With several years experience in a senior finance position for a large multi-national corporation, Jacob brings excellent experience to the executive team.
